Eating Right and Working Out

Are you a woman who is interested in losing weight? If you are, you are not alone. In the United States, a large number of women are concerned with health and beauty related issues, including those pertaining to weight. While it is often a lot easier said than done, it is more than possible for you to lose weight and to lose weight “naturally.” If you are interested in losing weight “naturally,” without the assistance of weight loss pills, you will want to continue reading on.

What you need to know about losing weight naturally is that it requires quite a bit of hard work and restraint on your part. The two most important components of losing weight are exercise and healthy eating. Without these two components of weight loss, there is a good chance that you will not lose any weight, in fact, you may keep on gaining more.

When it comes to eating healthy, there are many women who don’t know where to start. One of the first things that you will want to do is start researching healthy foods and healthy recipes. You can do this by either using the internet, which should be free, or by buying a collection of healthy eating cookbooks. These healthy eating cookbooks are typically available for sale in health stores, department stores, and book stores, both on and offline. Once you know what to cook, you can then start eating healthy.

Speaking eating healthy, it is important that you do not keep on eating the same foods over and over again, no matter how good they taste. Unfortunately, many women end up getting bored with eating the same foods again and again. This is often what leads many women off of the healthy eating path. This is a mistake that you do not want to make. Perhaps, that is why you should buy a collection of healthy eating cookbooks or take the time to research healthy eating recipes online, as it gives you a larger selection of foods to choose from.

As previously stated, exercise is the other important component of losing weight. If you are interested in seriously losing weight, it is important that you start exercising. When it comes to exercising and working out, you will find that you have a number of different options. For many individuals, exercising means hitting their local fitness center, but it can also mean going for a morning walk or run. Whether you put in an exercise DVD at your home or decide to lift weight at your local fitness center, this exercise is important to you, your health, and your weight loss goals.

As with eating healthy foods, you may want to think about spicing up your exercises and workouts as well. This will help you stay excited about losing weight and exercising. To help keep the excitement alive, as well as give you a little bit of motivation, you may want to think about contacting some of your friends or family members to see if they would like to become your workout partner or workout buddy.

In short, the combination of healthy eating and exercise is sure to spell success. While it does take a lot of hard work and determination to lose weight, you will likely be more than pleased with the results.

Choose Your Eating Habit With Healthy Food

By: Andri R

As you may know, healthy eating habit is necessary for your life. For many people, health is the most expensive thing that should be taken from a lot of methods including how they choose the food to eat. It’s not only about delicious food, but it’s also all about balanced and moderate eating, consisting of healthy meals at least three times per day and exactly with a good menu. People need to eat many different types of foods, not limiting themselves to one specific food type or group.

Food as a primary of people need precisely contains a lot of substances inside. Not at all of foods are good. Some of them even cause disease for human being. People need healthy food that can help to prevent or reduce the severity of diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and others. It may also help reducing the risk of developing some cancers. A main way of combating obesity and overweight is to eat a healthy food.

Choose your eating habit with healthy food isn’t difficult to do. These are some easy tips you can apply in your daily life and even you don’t need to spend much money because it’s cheap food.

Eat Plenty Fruits and Vegetables
It is recommended that we eat at least 5 portions, and ideally 7-9 portions, of a variety of fruit or vegetables each day. They contain a lot of fibers which can help you keeping the bowels healthy. Be sure you serve fruit or vegetables at every meal.

Eat nutritious healthy food
It can give the body all the nutrition it needs in order to maintain good health. It shouldn’t contain any harmful substances. Some other good resources of nutrition are lean meat and protein resources, such as fish, eggs, beans, and nuts.

Don’t eat too much fat, choose healthier cooking methods
Deep fried foods aren’t good for you and your family. Choose low fat dairy products and when you want to cook your recipes, try to cook them with better methods, such as broiling, grilling, roasting, and steaming. It’s better than fried ones which can give you fatty supply. But if you want to cook fries, choose liquid oils for cooking instead of solid fats that can be high in saturated and transform fats.

Limit fast food and low nutrient snacks
Your children usually like eating snacks and fast food such as candy, chips, soda, etc. You should limit it but don’t completely ban your favorite snacks at home. Make them ‘once in a while’ food, so kids don’t feel disappointed. Also beware with sugary drinks. Serve water and low fat milk instead.

Eating too much of even healthful foods can lead to weight gain. Watch your portion sizes. It’s easy for food to become a source of conflict, but it’s better for you to change your daily habit of food consuming before disease attack your body. Trying to find more healthy recipe and food will give more benefits for your family life. Health is expensive, once you get healthy, more you can do.

Fast Food Obesity is Sentencing Our Kids to Lifetimes of Poor Health

]]>

If you’ve paid any attention at all to the continuing health care discussion, you’ll know that part of that debate is about preventative steps that can and should be taken by everyone to guard their health and stay away from doctor’s offices and hospitals to start with.

A sizable part of this prevention argument has centered on the really scary childhood obesity data and the undeniable relationship between fast food and obesity in children.

Although the exact definition of obesity might be the subject for some argument, what’s not open to debate are the drivers of obesity to start with. That part is quite apparent, if you eat more calories than you lose in a day, you’ll gain weight. There isn’t any getting around it.

What follows here is a quite eye opening evaluation of some fast food nutrition details along with the current USDA recommended everyday calorie intake for children of various ages.

An average double cheeseburger, medium fries, and a medium drink in a popular fast food chain restaurant provides you with this: 1,400 calories, 62 grams of fat, and 186 grams of carbohydrates. In one meal! By the way, this facts came straight off the chain’s nutrition website. And, Should you “supersize” the fries and the drink, the actual numbers are even worse.

Compare those numbers with these USDA recommendations for everyday calorie intake:

For boys ages 4-8 and active 2,000; Sedentary 1,400

For girls ages 4-8 and active 1,400; Sedentary 1,000

For boys ages 14-18 and active 3,200; Sedentary 2,200

For girls ages 14-18 and active 2,400; Sedentary 1,800

For the USDA, the term “active” means that the individual does an amount of exercise equal to walking three miles at 3 to 4 mph as well as the mild physical activity of daily life.

When set out like this, the link between fast food and obesity cannot become more clear. If we want our children to be healthy then we need to keep them away from the drive-thru windows other than as a special treat (such as once a month, if that).

There are various studies that show the earlier in life you begin your son or daughter on a healthy and balanced diet, and stay with one yourself, the more the chances are that youngster will certainly continue those habits throughout their lifetime.

Naturally you’ll need something to substitute for the junk food treats and I recommend smoothies in their numerous forms as a preference of a healthy and balanced diet for years to come.

Good fruit smoothie recipes may be created from any number of fresh and/or frozen fruit with almost no calories, fat, and carbohydrates. As an example, a 16 oz fruit smoothie recipe using strawberries, bananas and low-fat yogurt will come in at close to 530 calories, below 3 grams fat, and 98 grams carbohydrates. In addition, you’ll also have the extra advantage of the vitamins and minerals of the fruit in terms of vitamins and dietary fiber that are just not in the fast food meal.

The plague of childhood obesity is not going to be going away, if anything it is getting even worse. But we can all help reverse the trend by helping our kids make better food choices each and every day.

Health science also known as biomedical science is the science applied when dealing with health. Health is defined as the “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity” as defined by WHO in 1948. Health science can be approached in two ways study and research of the food that we eat and the study and research of health- related issues to understand the way humans and other animals function. Moreover the application of the already acquired knowledge to improve health, cure and prevent diseases.

Health science, is comprised of natural sciences i.e. biology, chemistry and physics. Other primary research fields that greatly contribute to it are biochemistry, genetics, epidemiology and pharmacology. The reason humans have lived for a long time is due to medical research. This has lead to discoveries of vaccines prevent diseases for young children like polio, measles, small pox and others. Diseases like diabetes can now be easily managed and one lives for very long time.HIV/Aids is still a hard nut to crack for researchers looking for cure but the introduction of Anti-retroviral drugs has seen victims’ life prolonged, especially in sub-Saharan Africa where the disease has been rising.

Health science is incorporates the field of health care. This is the prevention of mental and physical well being through the services of medicine and nursing. Healthy care includes prevention of human diseases and disorders. It includes proper nutrition especially for those with diabetes, HIV/Aids others are breastfeeding mothers and children suffering from malnutrition. The field of veterinary medicine is part of health science dedicated exclusively to the care of animals. Animals just like humans have right to disease prevention and cure. Inspection of animal originated food i.e. milk and meat is part of health science done to prevent human from eating contaminated food.

MSG in Your Diet is a Health and Weight Loss Saboteur!

Edit Article |

Posted: Aug 31, 2010 |Comments: 0
|

]]>

Do you know that you are probably consuming MSG, or monosodium glutamate, every single day of your life without even realizing it?  Would you be surprised to know that MSG is a common ingredient in most processed food?  The more I researched this, the more I learned about the danger these three letters represent.  MSG is the salt of an amino acid and it looks like sugar or salt.  The difference is that MSG does not change the taste of the food we eat, rather it enhances the flavor of food by making our taste buds more sensitive.

MSG is usually found in processed foods, and it is an ingredient in many restaurant dishes. So what’s the big deal?  I mean, hey, if it makes food taste better, then why not use it?  Well, if you recall, some of the side effects from MSG that we used to associate with Chinese takeout were migraine headaches, pain or tightness in the chest, facial swelling, and numbness or burning in and around the mouth. Do you remember back when this was big news? Well, these are the more common, visible symptoms, but they are certainly not the only ones you need worry about!

Adding MSG to food has been connected with obesity and excitotoxicity, as well as the appearance of brain lesions in lab animals.  That’s because the glutamic acid is a neurotoxin: it kills neurons.  MSG also causes the pancreas to produce more insulin, and that excess insulin causes a drop in blood sugar, triggering the physical sensation of hunger! That’s why you’re always hungry after eating food with MSG! If that weren’t bad enough, MSG also damages the hypothalamus, the gland that controls appetite! This damage can cause feelings of insatiable hunger! Really?  And guess what? Those most sensitive to this type of damage are the very youngest among us.  No surprise there, I guess.  Let’s just look at the appetites our children possess: they’re always starving! And look at what they clamor for: processed food and snacks, right? Any wonder that the rate of childhood obesity is a national crisis?

Although it was not required in the past, the FDA is now attempting to have all labels correctly reveal the addition of MSG to the foods we consume.  The problem, as I have mentioned in the past, is that labels are deceiving.  Instead of clearly stating that a product contains MSG, manufacturers are disguising the fact by listing MSG as “hydrolyzed vegetable or plant protein,  autolyzed yeast, yeast extract, soy protein isolate, natural flavors, artificial flavors, or autolyzed plant protein, and on and on.  MSG is actually a component of at least 36 ingredients commonly found on “nutrition” labels!

What to do?  Well this is a tough one if you refuse to just accept the fact that everyone of us should stop eating processed foods!  Think about it. Knowing what you know, can you still, in good conscience, feed this stuff to your children? If you’re not yet convinced, at least try to cut back and start educating yourselves so you can start protecting your children.  In all honestly, I am infuriated by the blatant misuse of words, the constant manipulation of ingredients, and the unconscionable deception practiced by manufacturers of the products people consume (notice I did not say food).  I am enraged by the increasing number of sick and obese children whose suffering I see every day.  How about you?  Are you sick and tired? Literally? Or are you sick and tired of all of lies? I know I am.

Fish oil and its benefits for children

]]>

The major worry for most parents is regarding the diet and nutritional requirements of their children – from cooking fresh green veggies to buying a variety of health supplements; parents try all measures to make their child eat a nutritious and well-balanced diet.

It is no wonder then that omega 3 supplements are the talk of the town, since they offer maximum nutrition and a wide array of benefits for children of all age-groups. Some of the most popular health benefits are –

Increases Brain Power – As you might already be aware that more than 60% of human brain is made up of fat, and a major portion of this is formed by Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA Fats). Lack of DHA in your kid’s diet can impair learning skills, ability to interpret information, concentration levels and so on.  It can also lead to serious problems like schizophrenia, depression etc.

To prevent such problems you should ensure that your child gets enough of omega 3 fatty acids either through his/her diet or through fish oil supplements.

Better Academic Grades – As mentioned above, DHA fats can boost brain development and functioning, which in turn affects the way your child performs academically. Omega 3 can also help children deal with the pressures of early learning, help them focus on a given task or activity and enhance co-ordination between their eyes and hands.

Treating ADHD – Fish oil is highly effective in treating symptoms related to ADHD, as they can help reduce hyperactive and aggressive behaviour in children, increase their attention span, enhance memory etc. Several studies have shown that omega 3 fatty acids can indeed help children suffering from ADHD and other neurological disorders.

This is great news for parents as they will no longer need to give medications such as Ritalin to their children to control ADHD-related symptoms. Ritalin has been criticized for its extremely prejudicial impact on the child’s overall health and well-being. While it does provide temporary relief, it has serious long-term implications.

Omega 3 supplements work on the same lines as Ritalin, except that they are absolutely natural and safe for regular consumption. They also improve the physical and mental abilities of a child drastically and are a boon for children suffering from ADHD or other such disorders.

Best Source of Fish Oil

The richest source of Omega 3 fatty acids is cold-water fishes such as mackerel, herrings, tuna, sardines and salmon. If your child loves fish, you can cook fish thrice a week so your child’s omega 3 requirements are fulfilled.

Else, you can buy good quality, molecularly distilled fish oil supplements available as capsules and oil. Just ensure that you consult your health practitioner before starting on fish oil supplements for your child.

If you want your kids to grow into healthy, strong, and active individuals, you need to take a step now. Get the best of omega 3 supplements for your children, and see the remarkable difference in their physical, mental and social capabilities.

Obesity is a major health issue that is plaguing American society. Laziness, irregular eating habits, lack of care in children, eating readymade foods (fried stuff) and vegetables and fruits that are grown artificially are all causes for obesity. All these causes lead health risks in people. Genetically engineered food stuff like vegetables and fruits look attractive but are harmful to health. Also they are given hormones to grow fast. This causes damage to our body. The increase in weight (obesity) can lead to infertility in men, spine problems, diabetes, increases heart failures and many more.

The effects of obesity as health risks are many. Besides physical health issues, many suffer from psychological issues as well. In this modern world ‘thin is in’. Hence people who are obese are the butt of jokes and become laughing stock.  Besides older people, children are often subjected to cruel criticism from peers. This makes them withdraw into a shell causing depression. Obesity is a serious medical condition that can lead to cardio vascular diseases and even sleep apnea.

The first step is to exercise and follow a strict diet to help control obesity. This is a sure step towards reducing weight. There are special videos on you tube and other weight loss websites for obesity as health risks. Watch them to get rid of excess fat. There are also medicines available for reducing weight. This needs to betaken under medical supervision. These tablets help to reduce hunger and lessen fat absorption. These are known as anti-obesity drugs.

If it is genetic as in most cases then surgery is the only option.

Health and Wellness Coaching, For Better Health

Why I Recommend Health and Wellness Coaching

Up until three years ago, health and wellness coaching was a new concept to me. I worked in the field of public health for six years and I was dealing with a health issue. I was introduced to a health and wellness coach who helped me change my eating habits and adopt a healthier lifestyle which completely changed my health for the better. I was so impressed by my experience with my health and wellness coach, and my results, that I became one myself!

An effective health and wellness coach should provide guidance to someone to help them improve their health through changes in their eating habits and lifestyle choices. To be effective, they must also answer many questions related to the program they are coaching someone through and give support and encouragement to those who need a little help with major changes they are experiencing in their lives while becoming healthier.
To be effective, they must also answer many questions related to the program they are coaching someone through and give support and encouragement to those who need a little help with major changes they are experiencing in their lives while becoming healthier.

- People who have health conditions and want to achieve better health with great nutrition, more exercise and by lowering their stress. They gain more strength and energy, their immune systems improve and their visits to their doctor sureprise them because generally they yield numbers that are more in the healthy range!

· Someone who needs support and advice when trying to lose weight and needs to learn the types of foods that replace body fat with lean tissue and muscle. They also learn how to increase energy levels and cut food cravings. When they change their eating habits, they gain muscle, their clothes fit looser and they are excited to continue with their new program because they see results!

· Families who are trying to get healthier by helping them change their eating habits. Children especially benefit because they adopt these new, healthier habits at an earlier age, which helps them grow up into healthier adults.

People who are healthy already and might be into athletics who want more energy and endurance. They also experience an increase in muscle mass, a decrease in body fat and a heightened feeling of wellness.

Is health and wellness coaching something you should try?

If you are someone who wants a better quality of life by improving their health and wants to learn how to grocery shop and prepare healthier meals, you may benefit from coaching. If you are ready to learn the basics of nutrition and make the necessary changes to be your healthiest, you will find a coach to be very helpful and motivating.

I would recommend coaching if they are someone you can work with, trust and learn from. They should talk to you on a regular basis and be available if you have questions or concerns. Most of all they should be effective in helping you reach your health goals.

Vitamin D is an Important Part of Immune System Health

Edit Article |

]]>

Most people know that vitamin D aids in the absorption of calcium. However, the body uses vitamin D in far more roles than just supporting good bone health. The National Institute of Health’s Office of Dietary Supplements tells us that vitamin D is fat-soluble and does not occur naturally in most foods. It is necessary for the human body to support the immune system and is key in helping our bodies absorb many other nutrients.

The consequences of vitamin D deficiency go far beyond poor bone development and bone loss leading to falls and fractures. Vitamin D helps facilitate every tissue in the body. This includes the brain, heart, our muscles, and immune system. This means that in order for these tissues to function well, we need to be maintaining sufficient levels of vitamin D. Going long term without proper levels of vitamin D have shown, through recent studies, to cause an elevated risk of developing certain cancers including colon, breast, and prostate. Studies have also seen vitamin D deficiency to contribute to high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease, osteoarthritis, and immune system abnormalities.

It seems that vitamin D deficiency is mainly caused by living lifestyles that prevent us from acquiring proper levels of it. For instance, the sun’s ultraviolet-B rays are the body’s main source of vitamin D. When we are out in the sun, our bodies naturally absorb it. In modern times, and as a society as a whole, we do not get enough of those ultraviolet-B rays. Children and teenagers spend more and more time indoors watching TV or playing video games and adults spend their daytime hours working inside buildings. In addition, since vitamin D does not occur naturally in most foods, unless we are eating an extremely well-rounded diet, we are not consuming adequate levels of it either.

There are many ways of obtaining vitamin D in our current lives and lifestyles. First, opt to get more sun in your daily or weekly schedules. Instead of eating lunch inside at your work desk, eat outside on a park bench. Take the family out to the pool on the weekend instead of renting a movie. These little changes will prove big improvements in your overall vitamin D intake as well as overall health. Second, take vitamin D supplements. Go to your local Grocery store, supplement outlet, or drug store and you will find vitamin D supplements. Children and teenagers will love gummy vitamin D supplements. Third, adjust your diet to include more vitamin D rich foods. These foods include milk, yogurt, salmon, shrimp, and wild-caught fish, eggs, and orange juice fortified with vitamin D.

If vitamin D is absorbed naturally through the skin, the body will naturally stop absorption when sufficient levels are reached. When the source is ingested, like a supplement, there is no natural cut-off. Vitamin D toxicity includes nausea, loss of appetite, weight loss, and constipation. Although it is very hard to reach toxic levels of the vitamin, you should follow proper dosage instructions on supplement bottles or talk with your pharmacist about the proper amount.

Vitamin D

One of the fat-soluble vitamins, vitamin D constitutes two major forms which are vitamin D2 or ergocalciferol and vitamin D3 or cholecalciferol. Vitamin D2 is synthesised by plants whilst vitamin D3 is synthesised by the body. Vitamin D is naturally present in a number of food sources and dietary supplements, and is also manufactured with the aid of sun exposure. It is produced within the body when ultraviolet-B or UVB rays from sunlight reaches the skin. The liver and the kidney eventually.

Sometimes there’s only time for a quick “I love you!” before they run out the door, but many times those words sound hollow, because our actions don’t say the same thing. Words only are true if your behavior matches the words.

Vitamin D is an Important Part of Immune System Health
